Established in 1979, the Working Committee on Psychology Popularization promotes the understanding and application of psychology across the nation. Academician Pan Shu served as the first director, who is concurrently a pioneering figure in Chinese psychology and president of the Chinese Psychological Society, followed by Lin Chuanding, Zhou Qian, Shen Deli, Wang Shumao, Lin Chongde, Wu Shihuang, Mei Jian, and Gao Wenbin.
Comprising 47 members, the Committee gathers front-line experts from universities and research institutes, professionals from education and health sectors, government officials, and specialists from enterprises and institutions. It covers 22 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities. The embers of the committee come from different working systems including military forces, the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC), and large-scale enterprises.
The committee’s primary objectives revolve around the principles of “three combinations” and “three enhancements.” This involves combining psychological research and popularization practices, merging psychological popularization materials with information dissemination technology, and uniting psychological experts and professional organizations. Through these efforts, the committee aims to strengthen the research and development of psychological popularization products, construct a robust psychological popularization resource base, and enhance the effectiveness of organizing psychological popularization work. Simultaneously, the committee is dedicated to improving the professional quality of the psychological popularization team.
The Committee is the primary body responsible for psychological science popularization within CPS. With a mission to serve the country, society, and the public, the committee focuses on disseminating psychological theories and knowledge, organizing scientific communication and exchanges, and promoting the application and advancement of applied psychological technology.
Since 2018, the committee has been actively involved in initiatives such as the “National Psychological Service Grassroots Collaboration Network” and the “China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) “- Psychological Emergency Volunteer Service Team.” It has played a pivotal role in organizing large-scale science popularization events and conferences across the country, including hosting two sessions of the China Psychological Industry Expo and Psychological Industry Development Forum. Recognized for its outstanding contributions, the committee has been honorably entitled “Outstanding Unit of National Society for Popularization of Science” from the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) seven times between 2011 and 2022. Additionally, it was named “National Advanced Collective for Popularization of Science” in 2016.
