The Chinese Psychological Society (CPS), founded in 1921, has evolved over a century to become a prominent representative in the international field of psychology. Its rich history began with the establishment of the Chinese Psychological Journal in 1922. CPS’s contributions extend to hosting the National Psychology Academic Conference for 25 sessions, attracting over 2,000 participants, establishing it as China’s largest platform for academic exchange in psychology. The centenary celebration in 2021 marked a century of remarkable history and contributions by CPS.
CPS is a non-profit academic organization comprising Chinese psychologists, with a mission to unite professionals, foster academic engagement, encourage scholarly discourse, and promote the growth and development of psychology in China. CPS’s core consists of approximately 25,000 individual members and 48 academic institutional members. Its mission to unite psychologists nationwide, elevate scientific
research, and promote academic development has guided the organization throughout its history. With 41 specialty committees, 13 working committees, and 31 provincial committees, CPS provides a broad platform for academic exchanges and knowledge sharing.
As a significant contributor to psychology, CPS disseminates valuable research findings through its academic journals, “Acta Psychologica Sinica” and “Psychological Science.” These journals are indexed in major databases, serving as essential research resources for global scholars. CPS’s commitment extends beyond research publication, encompassing training and psychological assessment, offering vital support to thousands of individuals.

The year 2022 marked a significant milestone in the development of psychology in China. During this year, the volume of psychological research papers from China ranked second worldwide for the first time. Additionally, Chinese research in psychology led globally in terms of the number of annual ESI hot papers and highly cited papers, a testament to the country’s growing impact in the field. Key research areas that gained attention included emotion, COVID-19, depression, anxiety, mental health, resilience, creativity, social support, self-esteem, and autism spectrum disorder. This achievement reflects the Chinese Psychological Society’s dedication to fostering excellence and innovation in psychological research.
